The name "Navi" likely came from the word "Navigate", which is a derivative of the Latin word navigo, meaning "I sail." Navi "navigates" Link through his journey in OoT, like a sailor navigating a ship through the sea, which the King of Red Lions literally did in Wind Waker.

...I thought exactly the same thing.
I guess they made Navi "annoying" in the first few parts of OoT because there might have been some people that weren't used to the first 3D Zelda at the time, and probably found Navi useful at the start.

I liked Navi, even if she did tell you too many things, her voice was so cute! ;D

I liked Navi, even if she did tell you too many things, her voice was so cute! ;D Ooh, yes! I love her voice! I remember it when I heard it years ago, when I first played OoT! I loved "Hello!" and "Listen!" and "Watch Out!" and "Hey!" And what did Tatl do? Did she have a cute voice? No, she had to make all these ringing sounds.....I always loved Navi, I like her so much more than Tatl... Hmm....I wonder if Tatl is a Latin derivative....I'll see... Oh yeah, I was checking out the Action Replay for OoT (NOT to use to beat the game, by the way, just to see what happens) and there was an option that said "SHUT UP NAVI!!!" Poor Navi....

With Duct Tape, nothing is impossible! ;D tatl and tael. get it? like squimping, telling on someone. generally frowned upon, especially by youngsters. ^^ So I suppose Tatl tattle's all the useful information that can be used against her skull kid "friend" Oh, you're right! I did not realize that! ;D Yeah, "Tatl-Tael" sounds a lot like "Tattle-tale", or however it's spelled. That does make sense...After all, Tatl "Tattles" about an enemy, and their weakness, when you use her...

That's true, me and my brother used to use it a lot when we were growing up, but now I don't hear it any more. Hmm...I wonder if Link's other partners have hidden meanings in their names... Well, if you rearrange the letters in "Midna," you get "Admin." ;D

that's cool! ;D but obviously the name "midna" really comes from the word "midnight" this is completely random, but "Legend of Zelda" really should be "Legend of Link," 'cause it's all about the hero and not at all about the princess. anyway, that's cool about the character names maybe Ganon is from "cannon" or something. what I'm wondering is who thought of "Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule" for the King of Red Lions.
