No, I'm STILL not done explaining the game! ;D
Although, if you know how the profiles worked in the first Zelda Battle Game, then you already know MOST of this. Hooray for you!
At the top of each Character "topic" is the Quick Reference. This displays the character's HP, SAP (Standard Attack Power), their 4 Defenses (DP), and their Special Abilities (SA).
You can post the Quick Reference in a battle topic, so that you can quickly see your character's stats, as well as how many uses each Special Ability has.
For example, here's Link's:
Quick Reference:
Link (14 HP)
SAP: 3 | DP: 3, 3, 4, 4
SA: Spin Attack (2 AP, 2H, Front & Side, 2U) | Jump Attack (5 AP, LR, Use Roll, 2U) | Bow (3 AP, LR, 2U) | Boomerang (2AP, Stun for 2 turns, 2U)| Transform
Wolf Link
Lunge Attack (6 AP, 1U) | Latch (2 AP, 3H, 1 U) | Growl (+3 DP, 3 Turns, 2U)
So, it displays his HP, followed by his Standard Attack Power (SAP, the power of a regular Attack), followed by his 4 Defenses.
Then comes his Special Abilities (SA). First, the name of the Ability (Spin Attack, Jump Attack, etc.), followed by the effects of it in parentheses.
Now, to explain the letters and...words. The "AP", just like in SAP, means Attack Power. So, the Attack Power of the Spin Attack is 2, the Jump Attack is 5, the Bow is 3, etc. (In the profiles, they're Attack Points, but it means the same thing.)
The "H" stands for Hits. More specifically, NUMBER of Hits. So, the Spin Attack hits twice. That's partly why the AP is only 2; since it's hits 2 times, the total damage (unless Defended against) is 4.
The reason there are multiple hits are so that it takes multiple Defenses to block the entire attack. It's like attacking twice in one turn.
The "Front and Side" is explained in Link's Character Profile, but I'll go ahead and explain it here, too: it means that the ability (the Spin Attack) only hits the Front and Side Spaces, not the Back Space.
Now, the "U". It means "Uses". So, "2U" means that the ability can be used 2 times.
Next, to the "Use Roll" part of the Jump Attack. It means that you have to use your Roll Dodge to use the Jump Attack. There are other abilities that require Dodges to be used. Keep in mind that you could wait until someone attacks you, and then use an ability that uses a Dodge, so that you get the benefit of the Dodge (it counts as performing the Dodge in the ability).
Next, "LR", in the Jump Attack and abilities. It means "long-ranged". So, that means the damage is the same, no matter where you or the opponent are. Even if you're both on the Back Spaces. That's all it means. Remember that any attack can hit any space, unless, like the Spin Attack, it says otherwise.
Now, "Stun". This probably doesn't work as you'd expect. All it does is prevent the enemy from moving for a certain number of turns. So, you'd probably want to use it to prevent the enemy from moving to their Back Space to raise their Defense.
The "for 2 Turns" part shows you how long the Stun lasts. Other abilities (Such as "Growl" work for a certain number of Turns...as you can see, "Growl" works for 3 Turns.
VERY IMPORTANT: STAT BOOSTS DO NOT STACK. So, you couldn't use Growl once, and then again on the next turn for +6 DP. (Sorry.)
Oh, another important thing is to distinguish between "3 AP" and "+3 AP" (Link doesn't have a "+3 AP", but other characters do). The plus sign means that those points are added to your next STANDARD ATTACK. NOT Special Abilities that work as attacks.
There are other effects that other characters' abilities have. If you come across any that you don't quite understand, feel free to ask me.
And....that's it! For now. Please be sure to explain the effects of your Special Abilities to your opponent.
....in a NICE way.
Thank you.
