Notice: I'll try to keep this story as clean as I can make it, but there will most likely be certain parts where the extremely squeamish people shouldn't read.
Prologue
As far back as the earliest civilizations, it's known that when empires reach a peak, rebellion starts and the empires collapse.
In the year 461, the Inemri Empire has already come close to collapse, with several states having their independence.
So far, there were only eight states left that remained loyal to the empire. The southernmost state, however, has been in conflict.
This state was a bit larger than Alaska, and also the largest state within the empire. It was thought that because of its unique people and culture, it would be the least rebellious.
Oh, how wrong they were.
Conditions have spiraled down.
What used to be a democracy turned into a tyranny.
Nobody had a say to what is fair and what is unjust.
Herila, the southern state, was in economic crisis.
The money now in the state was virtually worthless, leaving many people to hunger, and eventually death.
The taxes on just about every necessity drove its people to resort to violent riots.
As a way to stop the violence, many things were done to fix as many issues in the state as there could be.
Inemri's policy worked. Herila became prosperous once again.
There was fairness, reasonable taxing, and the economy was healthy.
This didn't last long.
By 902, a new emporor came to power, and sent Herila down again.
The laws passed became extremely unfair. The prisons were being filled with "traitors," those that were accused of speaking wrongly of the empire and its emperor.
The state had enough. The following year, it declared its independence, but the emperor refused to recognize it.
What happened next is what showed that the people of Herlia would risk their own lives to get away from the control of the empire.
