This is just a story I thought up, kind of a "What if?" fanfic.
It's sappy on purpose, but hopefully also funny. I'm not really portraying all the characters as they were in the game, just to let you know.
This takes place after Link and Zelda banish Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time.
Chapter 1
Link and Zelda stood in front of the Pedestal of Time, looking down on it, then to each other.
"Link," said Zelda, "When you place the Master Sword in the pedestal, you will return to your own time, to regain your lost years."
Link nodded. He unsheathed the Master Sword and moved closer to the pedestal.
"Or," Zelda added softly, "You could stay here, in this time.......with me."
Link stopped. He turned to look at Zelda. Staring into each other's eyes, they felt safe and hopeful, even amid the destruction Ganon had caused to Hyrule.
"Are you saying...what I think you're saying?" asked Link quietly.
"It depends," said Zelda, taking a step closer to him. "What do you think I'm saying?"
"I..." Link began. His heart was beating quickly, but not like it did when he was fighting monsters.
Zelda gazed into his eyes, waiting for him to say it.
"Zelda," Link said weakly. "I...I love you."
Now the princess's heart was beating rapidly.
"Oh, Link!" she cried, flinging her arms around him, "I hoped you'd say that!"
They shared a silent moment, just the two of them, where the problems of the world around them mattered not. All that did matter was that they were together, finally able to admit their feelings for one another.
After all they had been through, they always had each other. That was what had kept them holding on. And now...
"Zelda," said Link, "Will you....marry me?"
Zelda's eyes widened. But she did not hesitate:
"Yes, Link...Of course I'll marry you."
Now it seemed as if their hearts would literally burst with joy; thankfully, they did not, otherwise that would have been very painful, and a little disgusting.
The wedding also took place in the Temple of Time, as did the proposal. It was kept secret from everyone except Rauru, who conducted the ceremony. Now that the war was over, the Sages had returned to their normal lives.
Zelda, now Queen of Hyrule, oversaw the recontruction of the kingdom, especially Hyrule Castle. But it took all of her time, time that she wanted to spend with Link. So one day she said to him:
"Link, darling, I want to step down from the throne."
"What?!" Link exclaimed. "But...are you sure?"
"Yes," Zelda replied calmly. "We never get any time alone. It's not fair to you. And I'm always thinking about you, so it's not fair to the people of Hyrule if I don't put my whole heart into this."
So it was decided that Rauru would take over, and after the coronation, which was a big deal considering Zelda was the last of the Royal Family, the princess and Link quietly left Castle Town, where many Hylians, Dekus, Gorons, and Zoras were celebrating, and rode away together on Epona.
And they lived happily ever after.
The End.
Just kidding.
~~~~
I know, it's not very good right now, but trust me, it'll get better. ;D
I was half expecting Link to drop the Master Sword into the pedestal (not on purpose, of course), and be warped back in time. XD That would have been so funny. But anyway, good story, if a bit short.
Lol, yeah, that would have been hilarious. But it's not over yet! Chapter 2 "Where are we going to spend our honeymoon, my love?" asked Zelda. "At Lake Hylia," replied Link proudly. "I've reserved the laboratory by the water. It has been completely renovated into a luxurious suite." "Oh, Link!" Zelda cried with joy, "You're so wonderful! Now I KNOW I didn't make a huge mistake in marrying you!" In seemingly no time at all, they arrived at the lake and entered the laboratory. As Link had said, it was completely different than before. With a soft, dark red carpet, long silk curtains over the windows, and shiny golden furniture, you'd never know a crazy old man performed experiments with frog eyes there. They stood and took in the gorgeous sight, then left and walked across the wooden bridge to a small island, where they sat and watched the sunset. "It's beautiful," said Zelda. "Though I think I prefer the sunrise. Oh, well, I can wait until tomorrow morning." "No need!" said Link, and he whipped out his Ocarina and played the Sun's Song. The sun sank beneath the line of trees in front of them, then immediately began to rise again. "Oh!" Link exclaimed suddenly, "I almost forgot!" He jumped up, pulled out his bow, aimed an arrow, and fired it straight towards the sun. There was a blinding flash of light. Link and Zelda looked ahead to see a small, orange glowing thing descending slowly from the sky. It landed on a tiny island several meters away. "Yessss!" Link yelled, and he swan dived into the water in front of them, then swam over to the tiny island. Zelda, frowning, watched as he climbed onto the island, picked up the glowing thing, jumped excitedly many times, then swam back to her. "Look, honey!" Link exclaimed happily, "I got the Fire Arrows! Da- da- DA- DAAAAAAAA!" "That's nice, dear," muttered Zelda, a little grumpily.
I'm not sure if I did a good job of writing it, but when Link says "Da-da-DA-DAAAAAAAA!" he's singing the tune that plays whenever you get a new item in pretty much any Zelda game. ;D Chapter 3 Before long, the honeymoon was over, and it was time to leave. Link and Zelda climbed onto Epona and rode off, back to Hyrule Field. "Where should we go?" asked Link. "Home, of course," replied Zelda simply. "Right," said Link, and he urged Epona on towards Hyrule Castle Town. "Wait, what are you doing?" interjected Zelda. "Home is that way....right?" She pointed towards Kokiri Forest. "Oh," said Link. "Your home--sorry, our home is there, right?" "Well, yeah," said Link, "But...it's kind of small. And there are only children, no adults." "That's okay," Zelda said with a smile. "I love children. I adore them." Link smiled back nervously. "Okay...let's go." "Wait!" Zelda cried suddenly. "Can we stop by Lon Lon Ranch first? I'd like to buy some eggs." "Sure," Link replied, and together they rode towards the center of Hyrule Field, where Lon Lon Ranch stood. Entering through the gate, they were greeted by Talon. "Ah, Link!" he exclaimed happily. "It's so good to see you, boy! I've been waiting for you." "Really?" said Link. "Well, thank you. Zelda and I would like to buy some eggs." "Of course, of course! Anything for you, son!" said Talon. He then turned and called, "Malon! He's here!" The door to the house opened, and Malon walked out quietly, looking a bit shy. "Hello, Link," she said, head bowed. "Hi," Link replied, a little confused. "Well, I'll go get the eggs," said Talon, looking from Link to Malon. "I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about." "Er...what do you mean?" asked Link. Talon laughed. "Silly boy! You remember, don't you?" "Remember what?" said Link, very puzzled. Talon sighed, then grinned. "Remember when you came here, seven years ago, and played the Cucco-finding game? And then I asked you if you'd like to marry Malon, and you said yes, but I told you that you were too young, but to come back in a few years....and, well...here you are! And here she is!" He took Malon's hand and led her to Link. "As a wedding gift," Talon said, his eyes filling with tears, "You may choose any horse in the ranch. I know you have Epona, but I'm sure you wouldn't mind having another, right?" Link was speechless. Zelda glared at him. "Um..." was all Link could manage. "I....I think there's been a misunderstanding. I....I'm married to Zelda." Malon looked up, wide-eyed. Talon's jaw dropped. "But....but...." "I'm sorry," said Link. "I didn't know.....I mean, it was such a long time ago, and...I thought you were joking." Neither Talon or Malon spoke. They merely stared at Link. Talon looked stunned. Malon looked hurt. "So...can we have our eggs now, please?" asked Link, smiling nervously. They all stood there for several minutes, no one saying a word. Finally, Link turned to Zelda and said: "Maybe we should come back la--" He stopped when he saw Zelda's expression. Her arms were crossed, her brow furrowed. "Um....are you all right?" asked Link, feeling very uncomfortable. Still not saying anything, Zelda climbed back onto Epona with Link, and they rode away, leaving Talon and Malon still staring with shock. ~~~~~~
You wrote it perfectly. ;D Oh, good! Thanks! ;D Chapter 4 Epona galloped across Hyrule Field, carrying her two passengers. Neither of them talked. She couldn't help but sense the tension between them. It was awkward. Say something, dummy, she thought, sending a telepathic message to Link. Suddenly, Link broke the silence: "Hey, um, Zelda...I...I'm sorry about what happened...back there." He turned to look at Zelda, who sat behind him. She continued to scowl at him, not saying a word. After a seemingly endless moment, she finally opened her mouth slowly and spoke: "It's all right. I know it was a misunderstanding...it happened a long time ago, and you were an idiot." "Yes, exactly!" exclaimed Link excitedly, overjoyed that she was talking to him, "I barely remembered it happening, and I thought it was a joke!" He turned around completely to face Zelda. "Listen," he said softly, "I love you. I'm not in love with Malon anymore." "What do you mean, 'anymore'?!" "Er, I meant, I was never in love with Malon!" Link cried, feeling a little frightened. Zelda sighed, then said, "Okay. I forgive you." "Thanks," said Link, and he leaned forward to kiss her. She seemed reluctant for a moment, then leaned in also. Ugh, thought Epona. Finally, they reached Kokiri Forest. Together they entered the village and were met by all the children, who thanked them for saving Hyrule. Link and Zelda decided to tell them about their marriage; it came as quite a shock to the children, but they nonetheless congratulated them. Link noticed that Zelda's mood seemed to have improved quite a bit; she now smiled and seemed much happier. Link led the way to his treehouse, where they climbed the ladder and entered, ducking under the low entryway. "Oh, Link," said Zelda, tears filling her eyes, "It's so beautiful...I know that we'll--AIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!" "What?! What's wrong?!" asked Link worriedly. Zelda pointed ahead of her, eyes wide, mouth open: "Link...there's a....there's a cow in your house!" "Ohh," said Link, sighing with relief, "You had me scared there for a second." "Why...why is it here?" she asked, seeming out of breath. "I won it," said Link proudly, "When I beat the corral record at--" He stopped. Zelda turned to him, as her eyes narrowed. "At where?" she asked suspiciously. "Um..." Link looked down at his feet. He lowered his voice practically to a whisper. "At...at Lon Lon Ranch."Zelda folded her arms again. "Really?" she said. "When was this?" "Um...I don't really remember," said Link, "Maybe...about a month ago." Zelda did not look happy. "Malon was in charge of that, wasn't she?" "Er...I don't remember...I guess so." Link tried desperately to think of something to say. "It meant nothing to me," he said weakly. "I was just trying to beat the record...I barely talked to Malon at all....please believe me, Zelda." But the princess had decided to give him the silent treatment again. So, with a long sigh, Link began unloading Zelda's luggage from Epona, carrying it up the ladder, and placing it gently on the floor near his wife, who now sat on a small wooden chair, not saying a word. As he removed her last bag, his and Epona's eyes met. She seemed to be saying, Good luck.
Poooor Link.
At least OoT Link isn't such a womanizer. You should have seen him in The Adventure of Link. Every time he entered a town, without fail, a girl would be waiting by her house, begging him to let her "refill his health." ;D
baaaaaaaaaaad Linky
geheheh. even Zelda couldn't help herself around him. of course, he DID un-petrify her, so I guess that time he deserved it. ^_^
So sorry it's taken me so long to update this! Chapter 5 Since the marriage wasn't exactly off to a good start, Link tried to think up some way to....make Zelda like him again. Having no idea what to do, he went to visit the Know-It-All Brothers. Stepping into the house, he found them sitting around the room, not really doing anything. "Hey, Link," said the one nearest him. "Hi," Link replied. "I've need some help...information, actually." They all perked up, and with wide smiles they rushed over to him. "Well, you've come to the right place!" said the middle one proudly. "We know everything about everything! What do you need information about?" "Women," said Link. The smiles immediately faded from their faces. "Oh," said one brother. "Uh...do you need information about anything else?" "No, thank you," said Link. "Just this. Zelda's in kind of a bad mood, so I'm trying to find some way to make her happy. What do women like?" Silence. More silence. "Is something wrong?" asked Link, after several minutes had passed. "Well," said the middle brother, "It's...kind of hard to explain." "We don't know anything," said another brother bluntly. "No! That's not what we mean!" yelled the middle one. "We...just...sigh...actually, it's exactly what we mean." "But you said you know everything about everything," said Link, disappointed. "We DO know everything about everything," said one brother, "Except women. We've...tried to learn, but...it's impossible." "Impossible?" "Yeah....but good luck, though!" And with that, they all turned and walked away. Link left the house with his head hung low. ~~~~~~ Sorry that was such a short chapter. Next time, it won't take me so long to update it.
