First of all, I would like it to be known that I am 100% positive that I am not the first to think of this. So, I hope it doesn't look like I think I am.
Okay, here it is. Ahem:
Link has used boats and trains in his last two DS adventures. He's mastered both water and land travel. So what is left? AIR TRAVEL, OF COURSE!!!
Link needs a PLANE! Can't you totally imagine him flying a plane through the clouds, watching the seagulls fly alongside him?
I wouldn't have said this before I played Spirit Tracks. But now...
For some reason, whenever I imagine Link flying a plane, I always picture a biplane. I'm not sure why. Maybe because I can imagine him dogfighting!!!
Anyway, as for the story, I have a few ideas.
One possible story: young aviator Link gets lost in the sky and finds some new land for him to explore ("Skyrule," perhaps? ;D).
Or, it could still take place in Hyrule, and be similar to Spirit Tracks in that he uses his vehicle for traversing the Overworld. It would be really cool to fly over Hyrule Field, and maybe up to Death Mountain.
Or maybe, Zelda gets kidnapped by some flying creature, and taken to it's lair in the sky. So, of course, Link goes to save her.
As for the plane, it would be similar to the steamboat and train, with several customizable parts: the wings, wheels, propeller, etc., and would have a cannon (or perhaps two cannons, one on each wing).
Also, it would be much more maneuverable than the boat and train; after all, you have more space, and a more agile method of transportation.
I can hear it now: "Link! Do a barrel roll!"
You could increase or decrease your height, make sharp turns, flips, spins, you name it.
And, of course, there would be plenty of floating dungeons for Link to fly to (and maybe through, at some points).
And, even more of course, there would be many new (and old) flying enemies to harass Link. Although, there could also be ground-based enemies as well, and maybe Link could drop bombs on them, similar to how Deku Link could drop Deku Nuts in MM.
Maybe there could be "Skyorgs" or "Flyorgs", air-based Gyorgs that swim through clouds. And who knows, maybe even Lakitus!
I think it could be really, really cool. What do you think? ;D It does seem like a pretty obvious follow-up to the last two games.
